Nestled in a corner of the festival, the d&b Soundscape stage is an area for the musos, the audiophiles, and the musically inquisitive. Now in its second year, the d&b Soundscape is a partnership between us and one of the world’s leading speaker manufacturers – d&b Audiotechnik. d&b Audiotechnik speakers are talked about in hushed tones by musicians and event organisers alike as they consistently pick up awards year after year for their innovative and ahead-of-the-curve technology. The Soundscape stage is pioneering how we listen to music offering the most innovative and immersive sound experience ever; if you didn’t catch it last year, make sure you do this year.

Check out the video about the sound system we made last year.

As ever, we have tailor-made an unforgettable line-up of artists that are perfectly suited to the sound system and the stage, roll your sleeves up and get ready for a host of genre-fusing, zeitgeist-creating, and at the top-of-their-game musicians.

The Stage will play host to headliners Saving Grace feat. Suzi Dian and Robert Plant, a brand-new collaboration which is set to be as intimate and soul-stirring as it is epic, and club visionary and DJ extraordinaire LTJ Bukem will bring his jazzy, atmospheric take on drum and bass to the stage, no doubt whipping the crowd into a frenzy.

Joining them will be the awesome sounds of Afrobeat 8-piece Kokoroko, Afropunk duo Tshegue, disco multi-instrumentalist Arp Frique and Family, the dirty blues, rock and gospel rhythms from Roosevelt Collier and fusion trio Szun Waves who blend together perfectly jazz, electronic and experimental music.

Other acts confirmed include Celtic psych-pop adventurers Gwenno, legends of bass culture and champions of the freshest Dub, Channel One Sound System, powerfully up-and-coming Kenyan flow poet Muthoni Drummer Queen, classic German techno performed by a brass and percussion 11-piece from MeuteKraftwerk re:werk presented by musical polymath Charles Hazlewood and the Paraorchestra – the world’s only large-scale professional ensemble for professional disabled musicians, free-spirited singer-songerCharlie Winston, Amsterdam’s masters of Afrobeat (with sprinkling of free jazz and psychedelia) Jungle By Night and Petite Noir – aka Cape Town singer-songwriter/producer Yannick Ilunga – is one of the forefathers of noir wave, that South African sound that squeezes together kwaito, pop and post-punk to deeply imaginative, neo-gothic effect.

There will be more than music on offer at the Stage this year, as the 1-2pm slot will be filled with talks and discussions all based around sound and music. Watch this space for some very exciting announcements on guest speakers.
