Earlier this month the wonderful technicolour wave of creativity that is WOMAD rolled into The Canary Islands, with 35,000 people flocking to watch the likes of Eska, Asian Dub Foundation and 47 Soul on the island of Fuerteventura, nestled between Spain and North West Africa; two parts of the world which have provided WOMAD with countless extraordinary musicians and artists over the past 33 years.
But now attention returns to where it all began in 1982.
WOMAD 2015 was an astonishing, vibrant and colourful display of music, arts, dance, talks, food and the incredible diversity and strength of the human spirit.
Unforgettable performances included Brooklyn Bhangra band Red Baraat, Acholi Machon the inspirational first ever artists from South Sudan to perform live in the UK, the incomparable charm of hip hop masterminds De La Soul and a spine tingling salvo from Tuareg soul rebels Tinariwen.
WOMAD 2016 returns to the idyllic Charlton Park in Wiltshire from July 28 – 31 2016. First details of the line-up of amazing musicians and characters from around the world will be announced soon, along with details of the usual illuminating range of exhibitions, installations, talks, debates, world cuisine and fun activities for the whole family.
